Octavian was born in 63 BC on a hill called the Palatine. There he built his house, which became the residence of his successors until the end of the Roman Empire.
The house was divided into two parts: one for receiving guests and one for private living. Both sides had floors with designs made of small colored pieces and walls painted with beautiful images.
In the private part you can see two particular rooms: one that looks like a theater stage, with many masks, and one that has pine branches painted on the walls. Both rooms have floors with simple but elegant designs, made of black and white pieces. In the public part there was a courtyard with columns around it and some rooms with very beautiful and refined paintings: a large room where we spent together, a bedroom, a staircase that led to the temple and a small room where we studied. These rooms show the best of Roman art of that period.
