A rare 18th-century depiction of a city across a river, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the left foreground, we find a church, the riverbank, and a camp with scenes of daily life. Beyond the church, Canaletto depicts a Palladian-style villa. The river could be the Brenta or the Bacchiglione. Further into the background, beyond the river, there is a tenement house with a mountain in the background. The sky is clear, but with a few clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
