A large crowd is on the quay for the great occasion, the launch of the ship, which is painted in the centre with its flag-standard flying. The people are depicted in minute detail. In the background Vesuvius dominates, mildly erupting. Beside the ship a second vessel is shown under construction. The sky is clear and lights up the whole painting.
The painting is on display at the Royal Palace ofthe Royal Palace of Caserta.
