"Canoe on the Epte" is an oil painting by Claude Monet made in 1890. At the time, Monet lived in Giverny, France, where the Epte River flowed near his property. The river often became the subject of his paintings, allowing him to explore the effects of light and color on the water and the surrounding vegetation.
In this painting, two female figures can be observed, presumably Suzanne and Blanche Hoschedé, daughters of Ernest Hoschedé (a friend of Monet), sailing in a canoe. The composition focuses on the rendering of light vibrations and reflections on the water, a recurring element in the artist's production.
The painting is currently preserved at the Museum of Art of São Paulo, Brazil.
