The artwork
"The Assassination of Caesar" is a famous painting by Vincenzo Camuccini, created between 1798 and 1806, now housed in the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.
The work depicts the dramatic moment of Julius Caesar's assassination in the Roman Senate on March 15, 44 BC (the Ides of March). Caesar, dressed in white and at the center of the scene, is surrounded by conspirators who stab him to death with daggers. Around him, figures in theatrical and solemn poses move, while some senators flee in terror.
The style is neoclassical, characterized by clean lines, compositional balance, and a controlled dramatization, typical of art inspired by Roman antiquity. Camuccini draws inspiration from the models of Jacques-Louis David, with a rigorous use of perspective and a "sculptural" portrayal of the characters.
