The artwork
A romantic and original view of the Arno River with the Carraia Bridge, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. The river, crossed by boats positioned before the bridge, dominates the painting. On both banks of the Arno, arranged in perspective, are the Florentine palaces. On the left side, the high retaining wall is visible.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated circa 1745. Another variant of this work exists.
The painting is exhibited at the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, UK.
