Antibes in the morning is a painting made by Claude Monet in 1888 during a stay of several months in the city of Antibes, on the Mediterranean coast of France.
Monet went to Antibes between January and May of that year, at the suggestion of the art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, with the intention of exploring new landscapes and capturing the particular light of the south of France, very different from that of the northern regions to which he was accustomed.
During this period, Monet produced a series of paintings depicting the fortified town of Antibes seen through the marine atmosphere and the local vegetation. This painting shows the old town of Antibes as a blurred and almost ethereal presence across the sea, while the foreground is dominated by maritime pines and the rocky coast.
