The splendid view of Ancona, in the Marche region, is part of the monumental atlas "Civitates Orbis Terrarum", published by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg in Cologne starting in 1572. This vast editorial project represents one of the most complete and detailed collections of panoramic views, maps, and descriptions of cities in the known world of the 16th century, conceived as a complement to Abraham Ortelius' famous world atlas "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". The work, distributed in six volumes, includes over 546 plates created by a group of artists and topographers, among whom the original drawings of the Flemish painter Joris Hoefnagel and the engravings by Hogenberg stand out, making each view a masterpiece of precision and engraving art.

The view of Ancona is created using the copper engraving technique and is distinguished by its precise bird's-eye representation of the city and its territory, offering a detailed vision of the urban layout, fortifications, monuments, and port.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
