An original and rare coloured engraving of 18th-century London seen from the north, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground are large gardens, followed by the built-up city. Further back are the Thames and the dome of a church. Beyond London are hills, drawn in the distance. The engraving bears inscriptions along its lower edge. The sky is clear but with a few looming clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1794. Canaletto created another variant of this work.
