An original and luminous 18th-century view of Westminster Bridge in London, by Giovanni Antonio Canal. Prominent is the Lord Mayor's Procession on the Thames, with many boats all around the Lord Mayor's great barge, rowed by thirty oarsmen. The bridge with its 15 arches links the two banks of the Thames; on the right one can see part of 18th-century London. The sky shows pale clouds on the horizon, but the day remains fine. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canal painted numerous variants of this work.
The painting is on display at the Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection, USA.
