In the foreground is the busy square in front of the Doge's Palace, with the pier and several moored boats. Further in the background is Punta della Dogana with the beautiful church of St Mary of the Health. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The dominant color of the painting is the blue of the sky and the pale blue of the lagoon water.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Other variations of this work exist. The painting is exhibited at the Huntington Library and Art Gallery, San Marino, CA, USA.
