View of Cava dei Tirreni - Jakob-Philipp Hackert

The artwork

A historical and detailed mid-18th-century picture of Cava dei Tirreni by Jakob Philipp Hackert. The drawing is rich in detail; in the background are mountains. Here Hackert uses a particular drawing technique without colour, relying solely on shades of black. The large tree on the right, masterfully rendered by the artist, draws the eye.
