The artwork
Original and luminous eighteenth-century view of the Thames, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The great London river dominates the painting, its width dominating the entire painting, traversed by boats of various sizes. On the opposite bank, London unfolds, with its Anglo-Saxon-style buildings and tall churches. The white bridge with its 15 arches is depicted in the foreground. The sky features dark clouds on the horizon, painted by Canaletto with shades of pink, but the day remains clear. This oil on canvas work is undated. Other variations of this work have been created by Canaletto.
The painting is part of a private collection.
