In the foreground there is the Grand Canal pier, with a gondola docking, and sailors. On the other side of the canal, the town unfolds, with its bell tower and Venetian houses. Further in the background there are some details of Venice. The sky is clear with a few white clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Another version of this work exists, exhibited at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.
