A clear and luminous historical view of the Piazza del Quirinale in Rome, painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. Prominent is the Palace perched on the right of the painting. The details of the everyday life of the Roman citizens filling the square are especially fine. Above the scene is a leaden sky in intense shades of blue, with a few barely perceptible clouds.
In the background, barely perceptible in the distance, are the dome of St Peter's and the Roman buildings. The painting is undated; this painting too is part of the prolific output Vanvitelli produced during his stays in Rome.
The painting is on display in the Capitoline Museums, Rome.
