A luminous historical view of Rome with Castel Sant'Angelo, painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The details are softened, and Rome is shown in the distance. Prominent is the Tiber, which seems to flow towards the viewer. The river is spanned by the bridge with its three Romanesque arches. On the left bank are moored boats and groups of people. Other smaller, barely perceptible boats lie near the bridge. Larger, more clearly defined vessels are shown in the lower right of the painting. In the centre one can make out the dome of St Peter's and the Roman buildings.
This painting, too, is part of the prolific output that Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome.
