A historical and original view of the port of Messina with a detail of workers unloading goods, made by Jakob Philipp Hackert. The ships are moored at the quay, with their tall masts. Some merchants are bargaining, while the dockers wait for the order to load the goods. The harbour quay is a small market. The painting highlights the toil of the workers, engaged in the hard work of handling and loading goods.
The painting is on display at the Royal Palace of Caserta.
