The first detail that emerges is the distinctive light emanating from the painting, with the setting sun and boats sailing along the shore. In the background, the dome of St. Peter's and the Roman buildings can be glimpsed. From the right-hand perspective of the painting, the buildings appear closer to the viewer's eye than those on the opposite side, which appear slightly further away.
The shift in hue of the sky is to be noted, which is clear in the distance, while closer up, it becomes dark and a deep blue.
This painting is also part of the extensive production Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome.
The work is housed in the Palazzo dei Conservatori of the Capitoline Museums in Rome.
