The artwork
A bright and original view of the town of Pirna and Sonnenstein Castle, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. The castle stands out on the right side, perched on a hill and well-lit, while the town of Pirna is further downstream with its houses and palaces, from which the bell tower and church emerge. The Elbe River is the painting's main feature, and the town of Pirna is reflected in its waters, crossed by several boats. The sky is clear, but there are a few clouds on the horizon.
The painting is dated 1753 and is exhibited at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Another version of this work with different colors exists.
