A gleaming, undated historical perspective view of Piazza del Popolo in Rome by Gaspare Vanvitelli. An oil on canvas in light, lively colours. In the foreground, the obelisk, placed at the centre of the square, dominates the scene. This picture is part of the prolific output Vanvitelli produced during his stays in Rome. In the background are the church and, further away, the Roman palazzi with the dome of St Peter’s. In the square are small groups of people going about their activities. The painting is lit by morning light with a beautiful blue sky. The shades of yellow and light brown are particularly fine.
The artwork is part of a private collection.
