In this view of Venice Canaletto chooses a quiet edge of the lagoon, far from the bustle of St Mark's Square, to portray a more intimate, everyday city. On the right, the palace lit by a warm light becomes a theatrical wing, while small groups of figures move along the shore: fishermen, passers-by, perhaps workers busy with the boats.
In the background, gondolas and sailing ships dot the calm water, with bell towers and towers emerging in the distance, blending topographical precision with a suspended atmosphere of silent expectation at daybreak or nightfall.

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that bear witness to its handcrafted making.
It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
