The artwork

An original 1670 view of the Pantheon in Rome by Lievin Cruyl, centred on the square. The roofed market stalls are a historic detail. All around the square are the Roman palaces; along the streets are pilgrims, townspeople and travellers going about their business. But it is the Pantheon that dominates the scene, with its circular plan and the fine classical colonnade at the entrance.
