View of Rome with the Ponte Sisto on the River Tiber - Lievin Cruyl

The artwork

A historic view of a detail of Rome’s Ponte Sisto, which Lievin Cruyl depicts reflected in the Tiber. The first detail is the special light the picture gives off, with the setting sun and the boats gliding along the bank. In the background the dome of St Peter’s and the Roman palaces can be glimpsed. In the right-hand perspective of the picture the buildings appear closer to the viewer’s eye than those on the opposite side, which seem slightly further away.
