This 17th-century view of Florence, engraved with the burin by Matthaeus Merian, turns the city into a grand stage, observed from a raised viewpoint that takes in the Arno, the bridges, the walls and the surrounding hills.
The scene, densely packed with detail, presents a compact, orderly Florence in which the Duomo stands out as a visual and symbolic landmark, surrounded by churches, palaces and gardens. The almost cartographic accuracy coexists with a painterly sensibility: the clouds, the distant mountains and the river landscape create a narrative atmosphere, inviting the eye to explore every corner of the city slowly.

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that bear witness to its handcrafted making.
It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
