The artwork
Detail from a painting depicting the fortifications of the port of Reggio Calabria in the 1700s, painted by Jakob Philipp Hackert. In the foreground, a guard in period military uniform takes his place in front of the sentry box, while two cannons are lined up ready for use to defend the port. The sea is calm, the day is clear, and in the background, a sailing ship and other vessels can be seen. Further away, on the background, there are some mountains.
The painting is exhibited at the National Museum of San Martino Certosa, Naples.
