View from the hill overlooking the harbour - Jan Frans van Bloemen

The artwork

A splendid and unique view from the hill overlooking the harbour, painted by Jan Frans van Bloemen with light brown shades as the dominant colour. In the foreground is a clearing shaded by a large tree. Along the road skirting the sea are some travellers. Out at sea, a few boats are entering the harbour. In the background are softly blurred mountains, and a tree-lined avenue that skirts the harbour and fades into the distance. It is a painting that suits any kind of setting.
