In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, with freight boats gathered together, others navigating, and others docked at the pier. The canal water takes on blue-green reflections. On the banks of the canal there are Venetian palaces, including the Doge's Palace, arranged side by side. The sky is cloudy.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated and is part of a private collection. Other variations of this work exist.
