The artwork
A bright, original view of Gazzada in the province of Varese, made by Bernardo Bellotto. The village is lit by the sun, with the houses rising around the little church, the meeting point of the village. The sky is clear with a few scattered clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1744. Three versions of this work exist with slightly lighter colours.
