Original, luminous view of the entrance to the Venice Arsenal, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the canal, with the boat anchored on the right side of the painting, and maneuvering gondolas. A bridge connects the two banks of the canal and behind it there are the two gates of the Arsenal, which guard the secrets of Venice's master shipwrights. The sky is coloured in a clear, vibrant blue, with a few white clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1732. Another variant of this work exists, created by Canaletto.
