The artwork
A clear and vivid view of Dresden with the Augustus Bridge, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. The great Elbe River stands out, dividing the city, connected by the historic Roman Augustus Bridge, reflected in the river.
In the central section, the church can be admired, while in the foreground, on the opposite bank, there are boats and passersbys, particularly a noble couple dressed in distinctive light-colored robes. The central theme of the painting is the Augustus Bridge, with its beautiful and powerful Roman arches, permanently connecting the two banks of the Elbe. The sky, painted by Bellotto with light shades and a few clouds, is depicted.
The painting is dated 1750. It's one of 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay there. Other variations of this work exist. The painting is exhibited at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden, Germany.
