An original and rare view of the old Zwinger moat in Dresden, by Bernardo Bellotto. The navigable moat is prominent, with high embankment walls on the left. In the background are the buildings of Dresden, while on the right a balustrade overlooking the moat can be seen. The sky in the background shows heavy clouds, while it is lighter and softer in front of the viewer.
The painting is dated 1752. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay there. Another variant of this work exists with different colours.
