A limpid, bright view of Dresden with the bridge of the old town prominent on the right, by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the great river Elbe, which divides the city, joined by the historic bridge of the old town, reflected in the river. On the left the church can be admired.
The central subject of the painting is the bridge, always busy with people, with its fine, mighty Roman arches. Bellotto paints the sky in pale shades, with a few clouds. The picture is dated 1748.
It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays.
