A limpid, clear view of Dresden with the Augustus Bridge from 1750, by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the great river Elbe, which divides the city, joined by the historic Augustus Bridge reflected in the river. On the left the church can be admired, while in the foreground, on the opposite bank, there are boats and passers-by, with a noble couple prominent, dressed in distinguished pale clothes and turbans. The central theme of the painting is the Augustus Bridge with its fine, mighty Roman arches, firmly linking the two banks of the Elbe. Bellotto has painted the sky in pale shades, with a few clouds. The picture is dated 1747. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays there. There are four other variants of this work.
