An original oil on canvas by Jakob Philipp Hackert depicting English sailing ships near the coast of Naples. The sea is rough: on the shore some sailors are hauling a boat onto dry land, while a group of sailing ships lies in the background. The sky is overcast, with black and grey clouds. For the sailing ships, keeping close to the shore in a heavy sea is the only possible option, as it would be too dangerous to head out into open water.
The painting is part of a private collection.
