A bright, original view of the town of Pirna and Sonnenstein Castle, made by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent on the right-hand side, mighty and well lit, is the castle, while the town of Pirna lies further down the valley with its houses and palaces. The River Elbe flows along the left-hand side of the painting. The sky is clouding over.
The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Another variant of this work exists in different colours. The painting is on display at the Pushkin Museum, Moscow.
