An original and luminous depiction of the Venice basin, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the basin with all the boats, some anchored on the shore, while others are sailing along the Grand Canal. The painting depicts the Doge's Palace, the bell tower of St. Mark's, and the other buildings in the square. The sky is clear, with a few light pink clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1730. Other variations of this work exist.
