The dominant color is brown. The monastery is situated on a hill, and is viewed from a nearby hilltop by two figures, who are admiring the landscape. One of the two visitors is seated and sketching the scene.
This painting is also part of the extensive body of work that Vanvitelli created during his periods of residence in Rome.
