The artwork
An interesting historical view of the Karlskirche in Vienna from the mid-1700s, by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent in the centre is the church, with its great, tall dome, while closer to the foreground is a river with scenes of daily life. In particular, a carriage stuck in the mud can be glimpsed, with peasants trying to free it. The sky is clear but with a few clouds; the painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
