The painting "Viale Principe Amedeo in Florence" by Giovanni Fattori was presumably made between 1866 and 1868. The work depicts a tree-lined avenue with people walking along it, suggesting a scene of everyday life.
The technique used, with broad juxtaposed brushstrokes of colour, conveys the impression of sunlight filtering through the trees, creating clearly distinct areas of light and shade. The figures, though not detailed in their features, are harmoniously set within the landscape, helping to give depth and dynamism to the composition. The choice of a simple subject, combined with the innovative approach of the "macchia", reflects the Macchiaioli's desire to move away from historical and mythological painting and embrace a more authentic and immediate depiction of the world around them.
