Original 18th-century depiction of the Grand Canal in Venice, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, with the water painted by Canaletto in shades of light green and blue, and the boats navigating it, including several gondolas. On either side of the Grand Canal there are beautiful Venetian palaces. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1720. Canaletto also created other variations of this work.
