An original and luminous depiction of the preparations for the Doge’s wedding, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the basin, with all the boats around the Bucintoro, the standard of the Serenissima flying. The painting shows the Doge’s Palace and the bell tower of San Marco in the background. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds on the horizon. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto painted numerous variants of this painting.
