An original and luminous depiction of the return of the St. Mark's Basin on Ascension Day, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground, we can see the basin with all the boats, "dressed" for the occasion, and the people on the pier. The painting also depicts the Doge's Palace and the other buildings in St. Mark's Square. The sky is clear, with a few light pink clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1754. Canaletto also created other variations of this work.
