Original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal from Punta della Dogana, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, traversed by boats of various sizes. The water was painted by Canaletto with shades of light green and blue. The Venetian palaces overlooking the Grand Canal are barely visible in the distance, with San Giorgio seen to the side. The sky has dark clouds in the upper left part of the painting and whiter clouds in the center.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1740. Other variations of this work exist.
