Original and rare 18th-century painting of the Grand Canal by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground, there is the Grand Canal, bustling with boats, surrounded by beautiful Venetian palaces. On the left side, the buildings are illuminated by the sun, while on the opposite side they are in the shadow. Canaletto painted the canal water with shades of blue-green, taking on a color similar to that of the sky. The sky is cloudy, tinged with pale blue and white.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1724. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
