“Untitled (1944)” is a brief but intense figurative-abstract essay: on paper, Pollock unfolds signs, blots and brushstrokes that intertwine without a defined centre, evoking a spontaneous, inner movement. Black tones and occasional touches of colour vibrate on a light background, suggesting shadows, fluidity and contrasts, in a play of light and silence. The forms, sometimes bold lines, sometimes drips or spatters, emerge as traces of an unconscious gesture, of visual impulses that elude any literal representation.
The work invites the viewer on an intimate exploration: the eye follows the artist's inner design, tracking irregular rhythms that seem to oscillate between chaos and order. Within it lies the seed of what Pollock would develop on a large scale: the tension between control and abandon, between thought and gesture, between figuration and abstraction.
