An original and luminous 18th-century view of the Grand Canal looking towards the Rialto Bridge, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Grand Canal, very busy with boats of various sizes, including some gondolas. The water is limpid and clear, lit by the morning sun. Further to the left the Rialto Bridge can be glimpsed. On both banks the splendid Venetian palaces can be seen, side by side. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated.
