Original and rare 18th-century view of the Grand Canal, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the canal, bustling with small boats and a large sailing ship (on the left). The water takes on a light green-blue hue. On the opposite bank of the canal there is a square-plan church with a large dome and Venetian palaces arranged side by side. The sky is slightly cloudy, tinged with light blue and white clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Canaletto has created other variations of this work, which is part of a private collection.
