The artwork
Romantic and rare historical view of Rome, highlighting Castel Sant'Angelo, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. Rome is depicted in the distance, with the Tiber River seemingly flowing toward the viewer. Castel Sant'Angelo is visible in the center, while on the right are a church and Roman buildings, rising within the retaining walls of the Tiber River. On the opposite bank, in the foreground, is a balustrade with observers gazing out over the landscape. The sky is clear with a few white clouds. Two other versions of this work exist.
The painting is part of a private collection.
