A rare depiction of the Tiber Island, painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The island is placed in the centre of the painting and linked at the sides by two bridges, : the bridge on the right has a double arch, while the one on the left has a single arch. On the right is the river landing with various figures going about their business. In the background are St Peter's and the Roman palaces. The light comes from behind the observer. On the left, near the bottom corner of the painting, rocks can be glimpsed in the river current.
The painting is dated 1685; this picture too is part of the prolific output that Vanvitelli produced during his stays in Rome. The painting is on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria.
