The artwork
A rare depiction of the Tiber Island, painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The island is located in the center of the painting and connected to the sides by two bridges: the bridge on the right has a double arch, while the one on the left has a single arch. The right side depicts the river landing with various figures engaged in their activities. In the background are St. Peter's and the Roman palaces. The light comes from behind the viewer. On the left side, near the bottom corner of the painting, rocks can be seen in the river current.
The painting is dated 1685; this piece is also part of the extensive production Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome. The painting is exhibited at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria.
