The artwork
A luminous and splendid historical view of Rome featuring Castel Sant'Angelo, by Gaspare Vanvitelli. Along the lower edge, the Tiber is plied by small boats carrying people or goods. The river is spanned by the bridge with its Romanesque arches and statues. Note the change of tone in the sky, seen clear at midday in shades of light blue, framed by white clouds.
This painting, too, is part of the prolific output that Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome.
